Proposal: Introduce a Community Idea Board with Voting & Implementation Tracking
Overview
I propose the creation of an official Idea Board on Hugging Face โ a dedicated space where users can submit, discuss, and vote on new ideas for models, tools, libraries, Spaces, datasets, and community initiatives. Top-voted ideas could be highlighted, reviewed by the Hugging Face team, or picked up by developers in the community for implementation.
This feature would empower the community to co-create the future of AI, making innovation more democratic, transparent, and collaborative.
Why This Is Needed
While Hugging Face already fosters incredible open collaboration through Repos, Spaces, and Discussions, there is currently no centralized, structured way to surface and prioritize ideas before they are built.
Many great ideas are lost in long GitHub threads, buried in forum posts, or never shared at all. An Idea Board would:
-
Give visibility to early-stage concepts
-
Help identify high-impact, community-driven projects
-
Reduce duplication of effort
-
Encourage participation from non-developers (researchers, designers, domain experts)
Example Use Cases
-
A user suggests: โA Transformers-compatible library for time series forecasting.โ
โ Gains 500+ upvotes โ Hugging Face launcheshuggingface/time-seriesinitiative. -
A teacher proposes: โInteractive NLP demos for high school students.โ
โ Community builds educational Spaces in response. -
A developer requests: โAdd ONNX export support for Whisper models.โ
