Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct access request pending for several weeks with no response from Meta

Hi,

I submitted an access request for meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct several weeks ago and the request is still showing as pending.

I also contacted Meta directly at llamamodels@meta.com more than a week ago, but I have not received any response there either.

I understand that approval for gated Meta models is ultimately controlled by Meta rather than Hugging Face, but I would like to confirm whether my access request is correctly registered and healthy on the Hugging Face side, or whether it may be stuck in some way.

Could someone from the Hugging Face team please confirm whether there is anything I should check or change on my account/request?

I have not cancelled or resubmitted the request because I did not want to risk resetting its place in the review process.

Model: meta-llama/Meta-Llama-3-8B-Instruct
Status: Pending for several weeks
Meta contacted directly: Yes, no response

I can provide my Hugging Face username and any other account details privately if needed.

Thank you.

Good instinct not to cancel it — you don’t want to lose the older timestamp, and resubmitting doesn’t speed anything up.

The part I can settle: “Pending” on the model page is the confirmation that your request is correctly registered on Hugging Face’s side. There isn’t a second, deeper state it could be stuck in. The request leaves HF’s system the moment you submit it; after that it sits in Meta’s approval queue, and nobody at Hugging Face can approve it or see Meta’s side of it. Several weeks in that queue is the painful normal for the Llama gates right now, not a sign yours broke.

Two small things worth checking, and one to avoid:

  1. Make sure the email tied to your HF account can actually receive — if Meta approves, that’s where the confirmation goes, and it does occasionally land in spam.
  2. The name on your request should match how you’d sign the license terms — mismatched identities are the one thing I know Meta’s reviewers actually bounce.
  3. Don’t resubmit. It reads as one newer request, not a nudge on the old one.

If it stays silent for months, the pattern people report is: Meta batch-processes these in waves, and there’s genuinely no escalation path outside llamamodels@meta.com, which is as quiet as you’ve found it. You’re not stuck — you’re queued.
