New account, no payment method added yet, is HF actually telling me I owe them $0.02? Or am I misunderstanding something?

Hugging Face has a steep learning curve so I’ve been using the HuggingChat AI interface to find answers to my questions that I couldn’t find answers to in the docs. I knew that it would use up my $0.10 free inference credits for the month and I assumed it would cut me off when my balance reach $0, but it turns out it didn’t cut me off until it had spent $0.12, leaving me $0.02 in debt (with no payment method set up).

Obviously I’m not worried about 2 cents, but it concerns me that HF can put me in debt to them (or suck more money out of my chosen payment method) for an overspend which is essentially their fault. As far as I’m concerned, it’s their job to cut me off when my balance reaches zero. This makes me very nervous about putting in any payment details.

I want to be able to load my HF account with a fixed amount of money when ONLY I choose. I need HF to refused to spend anything that would take my balance negative. I don’t want HF to start demanding more money from me or to suck more money out of my payment method to cover an alleged debt. Can Hugging Face work this way (reliably)?

Probably just a rounding error and a consequence of not requiring a minimum balance to cover for balance underrun. For what it is worth, I have had a $1.12 balance on Digital Ocean for 5 years. I have received little more than strongly worded emails. Send it to collections

FYI. I was told by a friend (who works in Accounting) who recommends accounts for collections, that collection agencies in the US do not buy any individual debt below $1000USD, it’s just not worth it for them.
