Hello All,
I’d like to share a new audio dataset I’ve just uploaded to the Hub:
Irish Tin Whistle (Whistle in D) – Preview Pack
What it is
-
A preview audio dataset of the Irish Tin Whistle (Whistle in D) — one of the most iconic instruments in Celtic traditional music.
-
Contains D Major scale exercises (lower and upper octaves), 5-note scale, cuts, taps, tonguing articulations, and a short melodic phrase.
-
Recorded at 96 kHz / 24-bit, using a single Oktava MK-012 microphone in a treated studio environment.
-
Designed as an early release ahead of a full dataset for AI training, audio research, and creative sound design.
Why it might be useful
-
Clean, high-fidelity recordings of the Irish Tin Whistle are rare in public datasets — this pack helps fill that gap for researchers and developers.
-
Suitable for machine learning, audio synthesis, instrument recognition, and expressive performance modeling.
-
Includes full metadata, README, changelog, and rights declaration for transparency and reproducibility.
Roadmap
This release continues the Harmonic Frontier Audio Celtic & Folk Instrument Series. Upcoming datasets will include:
-
Full Irish Tin Whistle (Whistle in D) dataset
-
Scottish Smallpipes in A
-
Bodhrán (Irish Frame Drum)
-

-
Irish Flute
-
Additional vocal and instrumental traditions
Open to feedback
I’d love to hear your thoughts:
-
What dataset formats, annotations, or audio types would make this most useful for your projects?
-
Are there particular folk instruments or performance styles you’d like to see represented next?
