Paper: Paradigm Swarm — Structural Prevention of Catastrophic
Forgetting through Semantic Weight Isolation
Core idea: the unit of weight isolation should be a "paradigm"
(semantic domain with operational definitions), not a task.
Three architectural properties:
- Zero catastrophic forgetting by construction
- Gap detection without training (100% Gaussian, 90% MLP)
- Unlimited compute ceiling
Key result (new): CIFAR-100 with ResNet-18 — SGD forgets 0.568
(from 0.585 to 0.016), PS retains 0.580 with zero forgetting.
Two independent runs (CPU 5ep + GPU T4 Colab 20ep).
20 experiments, all NumPy, CPU-only (except Colab CIFAR-100).
python3 script.py — that's it.

The isolation direction is converging across 4+ groups in 2026.
Happy to exchange notes.
Update (July 2026): The paper has been expanded to v4.0 — 28 experiments, six architectural properties (not three). The original post only mentioned:
(1) Zero forgetting, (2) Gap detection, (3) Unlimited compute ceiling.
The paper now additionally contains:
(4) Coalition compilation (§4.19b): when experts co-activate on cross-domain queries, a compiled expert trained on the joint distribution outperforms the coalition. +0.415 on XOR, +0.372 on product interactions.
(5) Expert distillation (§4.20): a compiled model trained on collective expert outputs outperforms both the best solo expert and oracle routing. +0.4 over oracle, +14.0 over universal (CartPole multi-physics).
(6) Dissipative structure discovery (§4.22): when experts systematically diverge, the contradiction subspace itself becomes a new paradigm — adding it to distillation produces a model +0.128 stronger. Connects PS to TRIZ contradiction resolution.

To date, no other continual learning architecture reproduces all six properties simultaneously.
