ChatDEAF Project – First Open ISL/TİD Dataset for Sign Language Accessibility

Hello everyone,

I’m excited to introduce the ChatDEAF Project, which shares the first public dataset of International Sign Language (ISL) gestures, specially created to support AI training, gesture recognition, and accessibility research.

The dataset includes labeled ISL signs with image samples and gesture descriptions. It’s designed to help researchers and developers build more inclusive AI systems for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

You can explore the dataset here:

This is part of my mission to promote equal access to technology through open collaboration. I’d love your feedback, ideas, and support.

Hi Yasin Şimşek!

We share a common spirit.

I love what you are doing! For the past 1-1/2 years, we have been developing a unique AI education application that we plan to open source at something in the near future.

I’d enjoy chatting with you via Zoom or Google Meet if you are interested. All of the software we developed in support of individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing were made available at no cost to users. See: Please see: IDEAL Group Projects in Support of Individuals who are Deaf, Late-Deafened, or Hard-of-Hearing Many of them have already become outdated.

If you would be interested in chatting about taking your wonderful dataset to the next level, and getting it into the hands of individuals who want to use (at no cost), drop me a note and we can chat.

Because of current politics in the U.S., students with disabilities are facing mounting challenges. In support of helping them we are developing an AI-based educational resource that uses (only) the analytical intelligence of local Llamafile models. We are able to render content in alternative manners that align with individual learner’s cognitive profiles. Operating fully offline and on standard PC hardware, this solution offers consistent access at school, at home, and in low-resource environments—eliminating compatibility issues, protecting against data loss, and reducing acquisition delays or costs.

I look forward to hearing from you and looking at your dataset! Please communicate with me via email.

Sincerely,

Steve

Dear Steve,

Thank you so much for your kind and inspiring message.

It truly means a lot to receive support from someone with such deep experience and commitment to the Deaf and disabled community.

I would be honored to meet with you.
I kindly request that we schedule a meeting in advance.

During the video call, I plan to include a Coda (Child of Deaf Adults) to help facilitate smooth communication.

I am excited about the possibility of collaboration and learning from your work and vision.
Looking forward to your response.

Warm regards,
Yasin Şimşek
