How do I report spam on this site?

There’s a lot of latest posts that are still up that are just spam. I cannot figure out how to flag them to report it to moderators.

Just click on the flag icon, select the appropriate item and send it to complete the process.
If the flag icon doesn’t appear, just press somewhere that looks like it and it should appear.

Hi, I am well aware of the spam attacks, these attacks are really harmful for our community and huggingface are trying their best to stop them, they already have some measures in effect.
I would highly appreciate it if you flag these posts, or you can tag me or john in that post and we will try to flag them as well or I can unlist them for you.
Really sorry for having to witness this and i hope you can be patient while huggingface tries to update their security.

Hi @not-lain, I understand that you guys are trying your best to keep the community is safe and thank you for that. I am frustrated more on the fact I cannot see any reporting mechanism from my end. This is how it looks like on my end on any post (the chosen thread is just a sample):

There’s no flag at all so I thought of contacting the moderators. Unfortunately, I didn’t know who you guys were so I had to create this thread. You are all doing a great job - there was only a small number of spam posts that actually got out but I wanted to report them because I know it will be easier to see on your end. Thanks again for keeping the community safe

not-lain is a user who contributes a lot to the maintenance of the community. He doesn’t particularly mind being mistaken for an HF staff member, but it does seem a bit surreal.
Of course, I’m a user too. It seems that when you write on the forum or get likes, you go up a level, like in a game, and unlock features. You’ll be able to use the features too.
Or rather, I thought you could use them from the start…:sweat_smile:
I think we were able to use the flag feature relatively early on, but the unlock conditions may have become stricter so that the trolls you saw wouldn’t attack normal posts. It’s an abnormal situation by any standard now.

there was waaay too many spam posts yesterday, so i’m glad you only encountered only few of them

I think the report mechanism is unlocked once you reach trust level 2 (meaning after you interact a bit with the community). each trust level unlocks new features and more access to features that are close to moderation.

this entire form is built over discourse template and changing the settings is not that easy. I am not a mod nor an admin, nor am i affiliated with huggingface but I assure you that I will do my atmost best to keep the community safe and spam free.

Updates:

  • new security updates
  • better handling of spam attacks
  • adaptive learning of spam patterns
  • if a new spam post is not cought by the new security update we ask you to report these posts so the bot will learn that new pattern.
