Hey there,
I am doing a research project on AI model openness and how this openness affects e.g. how developers use and perceive a model that is more open or less open. For this reason, it would be very very helpful if I could simply talk to someone who published a model on Huggingface or uses them regularly in their private or professional live and hence has some knowledge regarding the questions I am asking in my research.
My question is therefore if anyone is interested in talking to me about a couple of these things e.g. what openness means to you, how you define openness and so on? It would be a very informal talk and your answers would be (of course) anonymized if used in a research paper. I am just interested in your thoughts and opinions on some topics of openness.
Thanks again and kind regards
Fabian

I don’t think I’ve ever really thought about it seriously. I’m a bit fed up with the GPL debate from long ago, so I try not to look at it…
By the way, I think this topic tends to get quite heated on HF Discord, so if you can, it’s quicker to go to Discord.

Thanks for the pointer! Is there a specific subchannel to specifically take a look at?

I think it’s fine to use the general channel. If it’s inappropriate, I think you’ll be directed to an appropriate channel. I recommend talking during the day in EU or US time.
GENERAL - general # Anything related to AI is OK
GENERAL - off-topic # Anything is OK
GENERAL - ethics-and-society # OK if it’s about AI-related ethics, licenses, or society
GENERAL - ask-for-help # If you don’t know anything about AI or HF, you can ask about anything.

I’m an expert in the widely researched Big Five Personality model. One of the Big Five traits is “Openness to Experience.” Is that what you’re referring to?

Thanks for the inspiration! I dont know much about the Big Five Personality model but what I read online you could argue that models tend to be more open and hence have a more open tendency like a human being. However, I am not sure how fitting the analogy is as there is a research stream of openness of e.g. open-source software programs and more generally platform ecosystems and how this openness or closedness affects e.g. how individuals use the model. How would you interpret or apply the openness to experience to AI models?
