Hi!
I’m building an open-source AI assistant and I’m surprised that I couldn’t find any online community focused on this area of research.
I even tried creating a subreddit for developing open-source AI assistants, but to my surprise, it got banned without any explanation. And seems like previous attempts were banned as well.
I’m sure there are many projects like mine out there, and it would be amazing if all of us working on open-source solutions could collaborate and at least stay in touch.
Are you guys aware about any online community about this specific area?

Hi there!
It’s awesome that you’re building an open-source AI assistant — it’s a fascinating and impactful area to work in! You’re right that there isn’t a well-established, centralized online community specifically for this topic, but there are several spaces where like-minded people gather to discuss similar projects and exchange ideas.
I will give you three advices for you.
Online Communities:
-
Hugging Face Forums: Hugging Face has a vibrant community for developers working on open-source NLP and AI projects. You might find collaborators or start discussions there.
-
LangChain Community: Given your interest, the LangChain Discord and GitHub Discussions could be excellent spaces.
-
Open Assistant Community: Open Assistant (LAION project) is another active space for people building open-source AI assistants.
Don’t hesitate to share your project in these communities! It could spark interest and lead to collaboration. Best of luck with your AI assistant!

Thank you for your feedback Alan, and for the great suggestions! Seems then that Hugging Face is by definition the better generic place right now to discuss about not just assistants, but any kind of AI focused open source projects. I’ll stay around. Thanks again.
